Mark a partition as inactive


An Active partition is where the operating system reside. If you mark an non-OS partition as Active then BIOS will check for that partition for boot files and in turn the OS will not boot on the machine.

If you accidentally marked an non-OS partition as Active then you need to make it inactive.

diskpart 0

Follow the steps to do it

For WINDOWS 2003 and XP machines

The DiskPart.exe utility cannot extend a logical drive in an extended partition in Windows Server 2003
